My nephew ~:0

Guten Tag!

It has been a while since I last posted here. Hmpf... yeah, okay... more than a while! Well, I'm not gonna make some silly excuse for that. I've been busy at times and when I wasn't, I was still busy being lazy :P A part of the blame should be taken by twitter for being such an addictive tool for micro-blogging. Moreover, twitter doesn't need a net connection (YAY SMSTWEET!!!) and I don't have a reliable net connection. I'm sure I'm not the only one who left his blog and switched to twitter.

Anyway, I'm back again, mostly because I'll be writing stuff more than 140 characters :D

A friend of mine came over to Bangalore and we hit a couple of malls and watched the awesome Toy Story 3 in 3D. The creativity of the Disney/Pixar guys has to be lauded. BTW, the 3D trailers of Tron and Resident Evil: Afterlife looked great. Those two movies seemed to really use the 3D tech in a more involving way than any of those I've seen till now. Then we made a trip to Wonder La which ended up with me sporting a rowdy look. I fell down while climbing down a net on my face (OUCHH!!! :'( ) I got a few embarrassing tattoos on my face! It is somewhat okay right now.

Btw, if you are wondering what that strange symbol is after the title, it is apparently the emoticon for babies (: Well, as you can see (or you might already know), my eldest sis was blessed with a son on May 22nd, 2010 and I was thrilled. I love kids and the opportunity to look after a new-born was looming on me. I was so excited! I had study leave back then and my sem-end exams were starting from June. I didn't have much time to play with him (rather my parents didn't let me!) Well, then I finished my exams and returned and all I'm doing from two months is play (that's what I think I'm doing) with him, surf internet and watch a few movies.

It is amazing to see the intellectual development of an infant. The feel of the supple skin is nothing like what I've touched in my life. So smooth and soft!!! The way he shows recognition of different faces, voices, lights and objects is marvellous and the manner in which these ways change as he grows up is wonderful. It is truly delightful to spend time with a baby (well, at least until he decides to unleash the withheld forces of pee, poo or spew on you.) Words aren't enough to describe the beauty of it (or is it because I'm running out of adjectives here ;P )

PHEW!!!!!!

Sorry pals!

I know I have sinned and committed the Himalayan blunder of the blogging world. I should have posted a simple "Hi fellas" at least. But I had my reasons - my sis's engagement, my sem-end exams, her marriage, monthly tests and a bit of laziness on my part have all conspired against me and kept me away from my own "thoughtful self" ;-) Well, I am glad its all over now.

Now that I went through my blog again, I saw that I have loads to upload and I really don't know where to start from. Well, that Stallman's speech was awesome. The special thing was that there was a hoax call telling that a bomb will explode at 1.30 pm that day but the seminar went on without a hitch, except for the cancellation of the Q session. Anyhow I only got to know about the bomb at 1.45 pm ( after I got his autograph - "Happy Hacking!!" ;-) and questioned him outside about Microsoft's infant Open Source OS - " Singularity" but he did not have any inkling of what it was ). Anyways, I am hale and hearty now - so don't worry! I am in one piece too :P !

Then, my sister's marriage!! Well it went on real good and it was a lot of fun - at least for me ( my parents were relieved when it was over :-) Boy! They were so tired! ). Of course, they had so much on their hands and I was of not much of a help staying in Mysore. The strict attendance rules of our "Autonomous" college prevented me from being of any significant help. Well, I would not be of any help anyways, being as lazy as I am ;-P .

My exams went ok too, though not too good. The recent test went well. Well, in the meanwhile, I managed to win both the tech quizzes held by LCC ( Linux Campus Club) of my college. It was a lot of fun. I managed to learn a lot and keep apace with the seniors in the CS dept. I still have to learn a lot though. I had no idea of the things the organisers deemed elementary while asking questions.

And here is good news! My article titled "Mobile Operating Systems" came in the IEEE magazine "INTERFACE"! I will post it shortly. It was just an intro to the various mobile operating systems making waves today. And I made it to the Editorial Board of my college magazine "Jayzine". I am in the English section. I hope I can improve my creativity by mingling with the great minds of my college.

Oh, I have written a couple of poems too though not for the magazine. I shall post it when the time is ripe.

Well, that's about it. Stay tuned for further updates :P.

My Second Poem : My Fateful Journey.

Poem: A slice of creative writing in verse expressing one’s deep feelings and thoughts through the use of a melodious and graceful language.

I wrote my first poem when my sister was preparing for the exams she took to get into a good engineering college. I was just 11 then and I was idolising her. She needed a bit of hope and I wrote it to motivate her, though I think she didn’t even get an iota of motivation through it. It had a few lines and was a very simple poem.

Then, when I was 13, I wrote a poem about a train mishap. My maternal grandparents were in Nagarcoil, Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu and we used to visit them travelling by the trains. That year had witnessed many train accidents and when a serious one took place involving the train we used to take, my mind was thinking about them. Then the idea of writing a poem flashed to me and that’s how I started writing my second poem. This is a tribute to them.

My Fateful Journey.

I was a playful kid;
Naughty pranks, I always did.
Ten years after my birth,
I was sleeping in a train berth.

I was woken up suddenly
In the middle of my journey.
The bridge was smashed,
And the train had toppled.

Water gushed everywhere,
Loud screams filled the air.
"I am the king", the river roared,
Everybody was flabbergasted.

I didn't know how to swim,
I was enslaved by fate's whim.
But then the villagers came,
Our angels they became.

I am lucky as I am alive,
Only a few were lucky were to survive.
That fateful journey, I can never forget
However old I get.
